More clients are now “small” — so IR35 may be your call again.

For the 2026/27 tax year, the small company thresholds are £15m turnover and £7.5m balance sheet — up from £10.2m and £5.1m (50 employees is unchanged). If your client now meets two of the three, your own limited company is responsible for deciding your status — not the client.

Does this tell me if I'm inside or outside IR35?

No tool can decide your status — only HMRC or a tribunal can. Your report gives a risk score from 1 to 10, explains which factors point which way and why, and tells you what to change. That is the information you need to negotiate, check a Status Determination Statement or decide whether to pay for a specialist review.

Who decides my IR35 status?

It depends on the client. If the end client is a small private-sector company, your own limited company decides. If it is medium or large, or in the public sector, the client decides and must give you a Status Determination Statement (SDS) with its reasons. From the 2026/27 tax year a company is small if it meets two of: turnover up to £15m, balance sheet up to £7.5m, 50 or fewer employees.

What happens to my contract?

Your contract is sent securely to our AI provider to produce the report and is deleted from our systems as soon as the report is ready. The report itself is kept for 30 days so you can come back to it, then deleted. We never use your contract for marketing or to train AI models. Full details are in our privacy notice.

How is this different from HMRC's CEST tool?

CEST asks questions but never reads your contract. IR35 Checker reads the actual clauses, compares them with how you work in practice, flags contradictions and suggests replacement wording. Many contractors use both.

Is a £9 AI report as good as a specialist review?

It is not a substitute for a specialist when the stakes are high or you are under HMRC enquiry. It is a fast, low-cost first check: it shows you which clauses matter, so a specialist review (if you need one) is quicker and you go into negotiations prepared.

Can I expense it through my limited company?

Usually, yes — a contract review for your business is normally an allowable business expense. You receive a Stripe receipt by email. Check with your accountant if you're unsure.

What if something goes wrong?

If we can't produce your report, we'll refund you in full. Just reply to your receipt email or contact us with your report reference.
